Intermediate and Advanced Classical, Jazz Improvisation and Theory
Justin has been involved in music most of his life. At a young age he won two national composition contests, plus he also sang and performed in many concerts and productions. Until age 21 Justin focused on the classical side of music. After falling in love with jazz, he competed in the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival where he took first place in the piano soloist division. After moving to Boise, he got a degree in piano performance at Boise State University. He has gigged professionally with many groups amd also has been a guest artist at the Gene Harris Jazz Festival. In 2003, Justin again took first place in the Lional Hampton Jazz Festival.
As a composer, Justin has written several large scale works. His most recent composition "Jam" won the 2003 Young Composer Mentor Project Fellowship, sponsored by the National Band Association. As a recipient of the fellowship, Justin performed with the U. S. Army Field Band in Chicago. In 1995 He co-founded his music studio together with his wife, Rebecca Nielsen.
